About Us

My name is...

My name is Ai Nakamura, founder of KyotoKismets.

My father is an architectural designer who has designed museum buildings and urban developments in Japan and abroad, rooted in traditional Japanese design; my mother is a painter and ceramic artist. Raised amid Japan’s craft and beauty, I backpacked あround the world as a student, deepening my interest in diverse cultures.

Through visiting many countries, I realized that each nation has its own tea culture, and in each I sensed its history, faith, and everyday spirit. Living in Saudi Arabia with my family gave me firsthand cultural experience, turning a long-held interest in global tea traditions into lived understanding and respect.

I believe that revealing the true character of Japanese matcha—gently and respectfully—can enrich any country’s teatime. Valued nutritionally, it can quietly support daily well-being. Honoring every culture, I hope to nurture a “gentle continuity,” where today’s small happiness leads to tomorrow’s vitality.

When the “Value of Culture” my parents embodied became my own conviction, intention turned into action—KyotoKismets was born from that learning and belief.

The Experience of the Difference

Our first priority is that you truly feel the taste of authentic Japanese Matcha.
And if you use it in your shop, that the same experience can quietly reach your
customers as well.

Good Matcha brings vivid color, a clear aroma, and deep
umami together in a single cup, leaving a gentle after‑glow that lets the heart
relax from the first sip. At home or across the counter, one cup can make the
day a little richer—and we’re here to help with that.

Source Network & Unique Strengths

We have cultivated strong, trusted relationships with producers and tea artisans across Japan. Grounded in our family’s long‑running work in regional revitalization, we’ve developed a perspective that connects origin and market,
culture and business—bringing that connection to you as reliable quality in the cup.

Through this network, we work with:

• Farms that produce excellent tencha (shade‑grown leaves) but do not have
in‑house Matcha milling equipment

• Tea makers with outstanding traditional skills whose export know‑how is limited due to aging teams

Together we complement each other’s strengths. This is a core advantage behind our Specialblend design—something others cannot easily replicate.

Matcha project at the foot of Mt. Fuji

Converting extensive tea fields into tencha fields and cultivating
with the benefit of Mt. Fuji’s spring water. By combining the power of the land with careful cultivation, we are quietly expanding what Matcha can be, together with the local community.

KyotoKismets Special Blend

Crafted so Matcha Takes Center Stage, in Harmony with Tea Cultures around the WorldAt our core is Specialblend.

Even in lattes and desserts that use plenty of milk
or syrup, we design so that Matcha remains the lead.

We select JAS‑certified organic tea leaves from regions across Japan and balance multiple cultivars optimally. Deep umami, vivid color, and a long finish—so that even where a single cultivar might fade, what you taste first is unmistakably Matcha itself.

Respect for Culture

Matcha
is among Japan’s oldest cultural practices. In the past, a tea gathering could
take months of preparation—from the tearoom and scroll to the utensils—offering
the finest hospitality to a single guest. Today Matcha can be enjoyed more
casually, yet the spirit remains. We hope that spirit can harmonize with each
country’s tea culture, so you can find a new kind of joy within your own
traditions.
